In October 2025, Mexico announced plans to impose additional tariffs on Chinese vehicle imports. In response, domestic OEMs urgently increased shipments to Mexico. For Brand A, which had just entered the Mexican market, its first batch of 950 vehicles in October was particularly critical and time-sensitive.
To ensure the successful shipment of Brand A's inaugural consignment to Mexico, Anji proactively coordinated across multiple channels, offering two international shipping solutions: reserving 500 slots each for the October 24 and October 31 sailings. Simultaneously, domestic transport capacity was mobilized to secure the movement of vehicles from Brand A’s Wuhan factory to the port of departure in Taicang.
Incident:
On October 22, an urgent notification was received: due to severe weather, strong winds led to the closure of sections of the Yangtze River, preventing the 500 vehicles originally scheduled for the 24 October sailing from completing port consolidation in time. This not only risked incurring high demurrage or dead freight charges but also threatened to delay the arrival of the first batch of vehicles in Mexico before potential tariff increases.
Solution:
To address the emergency, Anji International’s ro-ro transport team proposed a reshuffling strategy: vehicles already consolidated at the port and originally scheduled for the 31 October sailing were moved forward to the 24 October sailing, filling the slots left vacant by Brand A’s delayed consolidation. Brand A’s vehicles, once consolidated, would then take the 31 October sailing. This approach avoided demurrage and dead freight costs while ensuring Brand A’s shipment could still be dispatched within October, arriving in Mexico ahead of the potential tariff hike.
Once the plan was agreed upon, Anji’s teams sprang into action: the commercial team coordinated shipping schedule adjustments with other clients; the operations team managed on-ground tasks such as relabeling shipping marks and reassigning berths for the repositioned vehicles; and the domestic vehicle transport team closely monitored the lifting of the river transport ban to ensure that as soon as navigation resumed, the vehicles could immediately resume transit to catch the October 31 sailing. Through these concerted efforts, the crisis was successfully resolved, guaranteeing on-time shipment for the client.
